Flame of Healing

This book offers slow, easy steps for healing of damaged emotions from abuse and trauma suffered during childhood, teen years, or as an adult. On each page, the gracious foundation of Scripture is the focus of one tiny step of healing. The steps in the healing process build upon each other with slow, directed movement toward healing of damaged emotions and memories.

In the first chapter of 2 Timothy, Paul encourages Timothy to "fan into flame the gift of God." The foundation of the book is the concept that God places in every person a gift, to bless that person and others. Abuse and severe trauma can block that gifting from natural, healthy growth in Christ. Victims are often immobilized emotionally. Through the devotional/journaling process in Flame of Healing, the God-given gift is fanned into a bright, vibrant flame of joy and blessing.

The format of the book is based on a flame of fire. The hottest part of a fire symbolizes the core of life, God's love for you. Learning about that love and soaking it up as a sponge is the first step of healing.and is explored in chapter 1.

The fuel of the fire exemplifies the trauma you have suffered. Christ also suffered and He died in the ultimate sacrifice of love. Chapter 2 provides a new perspective of your suffering.

Chapters 3 through 6 explore even further the healing process. The different hues of yellow, orange and red that are seen in a fire reflect the passion of the Holy Spirit, as a flame of healing in your life. In chapter 3, all the feelings that may have been suppressed are validated. Chapter 4 explores the process of forgiveness. Chapter 5 confirms your identity in Christ and chapter 6 helps you reach beyond the pain to help others.

It is possible to complete this devotional book of healing in one year, taking each step one day. If more time is needed for any one step, it should be taken. It Is OK to take as much time as is needed. Through Flame of Healing, indepth healing of very real, penetrating trauma can be experienced.

Excerpts

from Chapter 1, # 14

The Triune God knew you and loved you, even before you were born. He set you apart, from all your pain, from all your sorrow, to be holy before Him. Through this healing process, He is fulfilling His glorious purpose and is joyful in your steps toward healing. Lean into His grace and His full knowledge of your heart. Write down your thoughts and feelings of His love and knowledge of you, His child.

"Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart."  Jeremiah 1:5a

from Chapter 4, # 186

Jesus paid the price for every sin that was ever committed. It is up to each individual to accept that Jesus paid the penalty for all sin, or to ultimately stand before the judgement of the Holy God. When you seek to forgive someone who hurt you, you are not removing their responsibility for their sin. Only Christ, in His gift of salvation, is able to do that. You are, however, removing yourself from the grip of their sin. It is then between that person and God. It is like removing yourself from a waterfall of angry and hurtful actions. Write about stepping out of the cascading memories of the hurt you suffered and walking into a safe place with Christ, through the miracle of the forgiving process.

"Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world." John 1:29b

from Chapter 5, # 282

You have a glorious freedom in Christ. You are free from the burden of your past and from the victimization of your spirit. Your entire life is defined differently now, by the grace of Christ rather than by the pain that you once lived through. Do not ever allow the old slave tapes of your life as a victim, box you into a corner. Stand firm on the Word of God, His promises, His Presence and His love. Do not waiver or take even one step back to that old life of victimization.Hold onto the grace that Christ has given you. Take new steps of boldness in His power, with grace and love always going with you. Write about your freedom in Christ.

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galations 5:1
